On 29 September 2026, ORCI joined forces with the TADA and AWARE projects for a joint online event focused on artificial intelligence and its potential to support air traffic management.
The event brought together the three research projects to share their work, exchange experiences and discuss how AI-based tools can support different aspects of air traffic management while keeping human expertise at the centre of decision-making.
Three projects, three approaches to AI
The session featured presentations from ORCI, TADA and AWARE, offering an overview of each project’s objectives, approach and progress. Although the projects address different challenges, they share a common interest in exploring how artificial intelligence can contribute to the future of air traffic management.
Following the presentations, participants had the opportunity to see demonstrations of the three AI tools. These demos provided a closer look at how each solution works and how AI research is being translated into practical decision-support concepts.
The event concluded with a panel discussion, giving participants the opportunity to exchange views, reflect on the projects’ experiences and discuss common challenges and opportunities in developing AI-based tools for aviation.
Sharing knowledge to move research forward
Bringing ORCI, TADA and AWARE together was a valuable opportunity to look beyond the individual projects and explore common ground. Sharing different approaches, lessons learned and technical experiences helps build a broader understanding of how AI can be developed and evaluated for future ATM applications.
For ORCI, the event was also an opportunity to present its work on predicting aircraft spacing during final approach and demonstrate how its AI-based decision-support tool can provide additional information to air traffic controllers when managing arriving aircraft.
A big thank you to everyone involved in organising and taking part in the event. Bringing these three projects together was a great way to share our work, learn from each other and continue the conversation about the role of AI in the future of air traffic management. ✈️
