ORCI brings together four partners with different backgrounds and areas of expertise, all working towards a common goal: exploring how artificial intelligence can support air traffic controllers in managing aircraft arrivals.

From AI development and simulation to real operational experience, each partner plays an important role in bringing the project together.

ISA Software

As project coordinator, ISA Software leads the overall project activities, bringing expertise in air traffic management systems and simulation. Its team is responsible for system architecture and integration, as well as the simulation activities that allow ORCI to be tested and evaluated.

INECO

INECO brings its expertise in big data and artificial intelligence to ORCI, developing the machine learning models and AI services used to predict aircraft spacing. The team also leads the project’s communication and dissemination activities, sharing its progress and results with the wider aviation community.

ENAIRE

As the Spanish Air Navigation Service Provider, ENAIRE contributes its operational knowledge to the Barcelona case study. Its involvement helps ensure that the development and evaluation of ORCI take into account real air traffic management procedures and the needs of air traffic controllers.

NAV Portugal

NAV Portugal brings its operational expertise to the Lisbon case study, including its experience with Point Merge procedures. The team supports the validation of ORCI in a different operational environment, helping assess how the tool performs under different arrival management conditions.

Bringing these different areas of expertise together has been one of the most rewarding parts of ORCI. Working in a small consortium has allowed us to stay closely connected, exchange ideas openly and work together to find solutions whenever challenges came up. Each partner has brought a different perspective to the project, and that mix of technical knowledge and operational experience has made the collaboration especially valuable.

As ORCI approaches its final stage, it’s a good moment to look back at what we’ve achieved together, but also at the people and teamwork behind it. Beyond the technical results, ORCI has been a great opportunity to learn from each other, share experiences and build strong working relationships across the four organisations.

A big thank you to everyone at ISA Software, INECO, ENAIRE and NAV Portugal for the collaboration, commitment and good teamwork throughout the project. It’s been a pleasure working together! ✈️
